For the first time in history, the Census will count both unmarried same-sex partners and legally married same-sex spouses in its 2010 survey! This advancement is due in great part to advocacy by the Task Force, and our members and supporters.

Still, there is no question on the 2010 census that asks individuals if they are lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender — and LGBT questions are not included in almost all other major federal surveys.

LGBT people are basically invisible in the survey that is supposed to reflect the diversity of America's population — and that's a big problem. The data collected impacts issues critical to every American — like our health care, our economic stability, and even our safety.

It's past time to Queer the Census! Sign the petition below to demand that the census ask the question and count everyone!

Attention U.S. Census Bureau:
I believe that lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender Americans deserve to be counted in the Census and in other federal surveys. I support the inclusion of questions that would allow LGBT people to show the true diversity of our communities.
